Think About Turning Today!
September 12, 2012 President’s Message:
It is Symposium 7 time again and time to do some final planning for our biggest event of the year. All of our concerns will be dealt with at the Sept. 12 meeting. Consult the agenda.
I have spoken to Malcomb Tibbetts and am very excited about his coming. He said that among woodturners he is probably the pied-piper of segmented turning. There just aren’t that many out there teaching this so this is an excellent opportunity for us to be introduced to an uncommon technique. It seems that during the first few weeks after a symposium we see new and creative wood projects mirroring what has just been presented. So I am looking forward to some segmented turnings from our turners.
The Montana Fair was a roaring success for our Club. We met some prospective new members and kept the crowd entertained. And we won two ribbons (Judge’s Choice Award and People’s Choice Award). The Judge’s Award was given for “the best interaction with viewers.” Congratulation s members. I found that the camaraderie of our members who did the demonstrations made the whole experience worthwhile. I truly learned a lot from being with much better turners. Thank you. Dr. Van
