Show and Tell: February challenge any kind of toy.
Ron Velin: Made a train whistle from Blood wood finish
Dr Van: Made a battle top, type of wood and finish
unknown. He got the instructions from the
last issue of the American Woodturners Journal.
Ralph Pehl: Made a walking duck and goose from Pine with a
Dan Vanderhoof: Made a Oak top and a battle top.
Paul Spencer: Made 2 flouts out of PVC pipe.
Dave Torrence: Made a car from Maple and Redhart wood,
finish unknown. He also made a
panel truck, kind off wood and finish unknown.
Other show and tell:
Phil Scott: Brought a platter
made from Cotton Wood burl, finish unknown.
Dr Van: Brought 2 segmented
bowls 1 made from Mahogany and 1 made from Maple, finishes unknown.
Dan Vanderhoof: Brought a
segmented candle holder, kind of wood unknown, painted black.
Gary Levine: Brought 3 nested
bowls made from Elm with an oil finish.
Paul Spencer: Brought several
Nova chucks to show us that they now make quick release jaws with kits to use
them on your existing Nova chucks.
Treasurerís report: We
had at least 3 new members pay there dues at our January meeting.
We still have a good balance. If
you any questions call Leona.
Gathering wood: On going. If you hear of any one that has wood they
want to get rid of or is having trees taken down that are good turning wood,
call Ron Velin.
Soliciting new members: On going
Hands On Workshops: George Oliver said he
will do 5 again in 2015.
There will be an open workshop at Stan Lambert's
shop on (March 14)
2015 Dues are due, remain at $25.
Great Falls Woodturners annual symposium,
September 26 & 27 2015, presenter is Rudy Lopez from Florida (from Barry
Yellowstone Woodturners Symposium for 2015...
Alan Carter will be our presenter. Cost if payed
by September 9 $ 90.00
Cost if payed after September 9 $100.00
Cost for one day Saturday or Sunday $ 75.00
Under 18 Free
Includes: lunch, coffee, cookies and snacks.
High School classes:
Dan Vanderhoof, Jerry Gipe and Stan Lambert
teaching classes in 2015 and
they are the first Wednesday of the month from
2:30 to 5:00 PM. At West
High School wood shop. If you would like to go
and see what it is like or
teach you may stop by. Jerry told us that they
have some really interested
students right now.
Ron Velin mentioned that the American Association
of Woodturners has a fund raiser
for some charity in the the host city of the
National Symposium. He told us that this
year it is bowls that they sell for $25.00 each
and he thought it would be nice if we
sent a box full. (So bring them in)
Monthly turning challenge:
March challenge is any kind plate, platter, bowl etc. with some kind
of embellishment on it, like color, texture, wood burning, etc.
My best discovery lately: There was no discovery given at this
Juried critique of turning: There was no critique at this meeting.
