Minutes (Wednesday January 13, 2016 Meeting)

Officers: Ron, Leona, Stan, Nick

Call for Guests: We had two new guests at our meeting that showed interest in our club.

Hopefully they will decide to join.

Health Reports: No new reports.

Correspondence: We have some hats and sew on patches with our club's logo for sale. Call Ron V.

Show and Tell:

Jerry G. Brought a vase made from an old fence post, kind of wood unknown and finished with

lacquer. He also brought a split bowl made from Oak and Maple with a lacquer finish.

Phil S. Brought a segmented bowl with 7 different woods and finished with lacquer.

Roger H. Brought a bowl made from Cotton Wood Burl and finished with lacquer. He also brought

3 goblets, kind of wood and finish unknown.

Tim M. Brought a plate made from Russian Olive with a wax finish, a bowl made from Ash with a

club mix finish, a natural edge bowl made from Walnut with a club mix finish and a box

made from Aspen with a club mix finish.

Dan V. Brought a 2 split bowls, one made from Leopard Wood and Ash with Deft spray finish the

other was made from Maple with a tung oil finish.

Stan L. Brought a platter/bowl made from Cotton Wood Burl with a club mix finish, a bowl made

from Black Ash Burl with a club mix finish, a bowl made from Silver or Sugar Maple with a

club mix finish, a lidded box made from Rosewood with a club mix finish and practice

threads made from Walnut with a club mix finish.

Dale M. Brought 2 bowls made from Ash with a walnut oil finish, 2 natural edge bowls made from

Maple with a walnut oil finish and a split bowl made from Walnut and Hickory, finish unknown.

Jane K. Brought 2 lidded vases made from Ash and Red Cedar with Elk horn finials finished with CA

glue and a lidded bowl made from laminated Oak boards with a CA glue finish.

Jarrod McD. Brought 3 bowls made from beetle kill Pine, finish unknown and a bowl made from

Apple, finish unknown.

Ralph P. Brought a bag of lint free paper towels for all to try.

Next month's challenge: Any kind of toy.

Treasurer’s report: No report this meeting.

New Business:

Gathering Wood: On going

Soliciting New Members: On going

Open Workshop: No workshop scheduled.

Hands On Workshops: Nothing scheduled.

2016 Dues are due, remain at $25.

Dan S. talked to us about a fundraiser that he works with called Souper Bowl that is

for Angela's Piazza a women's drop-in center. They are asking for turned wood bowl

donations. If you are interested in donating some bowls you can drop them off at the

Women's Drop-In Center at 420 Grand Ave. before Friday February 5.

Stan L. talked about the cost and style of name tags that he looked into and there was

a motion and seconded to perches name tags.

Stan L. also told us that he volunteered to make furniture for the Children's Museum

and asked for volunteers to help him. If you would like to help, give Stan a call.

Ron V. handed out information on 3 presenters for our next Symposium and after

looking at the information and discussion there was a motion and seconded that we

would like to have Keith Gostschall. So if every thing comes together our Symposium

will be the weekend of October 8 and 9 and Keith Gostschall will be our presenter.

Jane K. took pictures of all the show and tell to put on our Face Book Page and to send

to Alan Carter the presenter at our last Symposium.

High School classes: Stan L. told us that there hasn’t been any class at this time

Monthly turning challenge: The challenge for February is any kind of toy.

PROGRAM: Dr. Van will do a presentation on threading wood pieces.
