Minutes (Wednesday, May, 2015 Meeting)

We had a another new member join the club, but I did not get his name.

Stan L brought some Redwood turning blocks and gave all who wanted a piece.
 

Show and Tell: May challenge was to make a goblet or some other piece with a captured ring.

Dan Vanderhoof: Brought an offset piece with 2 captured rings made from Honey Locus, finish

Unknown.

Stan Lambert: Brought a goblet with a ring kind of wood Heforgot with the club mix finish.

Nick Emslander: Brought a goblet with 3 rings made from Bubinga and Ebony, Unfinished.

Ralph Pehl: Brought a cage made from Pine and Plywood with a ring inside, unfinished.

Dr. Van: Brought a goblet made from Apple with a ring, Unfinished.

Ralph Torrence: Brought a piece with a ring made from Oak, finish Unknown.

Jerry Gipe: Brought a goblet with a ring made from Apple, unfinished.

Jane Kelly: Brought a piece with a ring made from Pine, Unfinished.
 

Other show and tell:

Dr Van: Brought a basket Made from Paduke and Maple he cut with a scroll saw, unfinished.

San Lambert: Brought a bowl made from Redwood finished with the club mix.

Jerry Gipe: Brought 2 wine coolers 1 made from reclaimed wood and the other made from

Tiger Wood and Maple. Both where finished with lacquer.

George Oliver: Brought a hollow form made from Sycamore with an umbra technique

finished with Lacquer. He also brought a bowl made from Cherry finished

Mahoney's Oil. His third piece was a night stand jewelry box made from Big

Leaf Maple burl with emerald inlay finished with lacquer.

Jane Kelly: Brought a bowl made from several layers of plywood glued together finished

with lacquer.

Ralph Pehl: Brought a walking stick made from Diamond Willow, finish unknown.

Treasurerís report: No report this meeting.

New Business:

Gathering Wood: We were offered some Cherry from Mark Radcliffe of Artistic Iron on

Grand Ave. and some of the members will be picking that up in the

next week or so. We will have Cherry wood to share.
 

Soliciting New Members: On going
 

Open Workshop: Was on Saturday, May 9 at Stan's shop where we made tops to be

handed out at St. Vincent's Pediatric Unite at a later date.
 

Hands On Workshops: George Oliver said he will do some Workshops, the

particulars to be worked out when he returns.
 

2015 Dues are due, remain at $25.
 

Great Falls Woodturners annual symposium, September 26 & 27 2015, presenter is

Yellowstone Woodturners Symposium for 2015... October 17-18

Alan Carter will be our presenter. Cost if payed by September 9 $ 90.00

Cost if payed after September 9 $100.00

Cost for one day Saturday or Sunday $ 75.00

Under 18 Free

Includes: lunch, coffee, cookies and snacks.
 

High School classes: Classes for students are finished for this school year.
 

Monthly turning challenge:

The June challenge is for any kind of kitchen utensil.

We now have a new inventory list for our library and a new members list that are

posted on our web site, so if you would like a copy you can get it there or call Ron

Velin. We also have 2 new DVD's donated to the club by Mick McCormack. They are

Woodturning Projects with Rex & Kip volume 1 & 2.
 

Dr. Van talked to some one at St. Vincent's pediatric unit about us handing out tops to

children that are having to stay there. We received an E-mail stating that they would

like to have us do that at our convenience as long as it's OK with the parents. Could be

good exposure for the club.
 

Sunday, August 2 is the set up time for this year's fair so we are starting to plan for that.
 

Dr. Van told us that he had gotten a request for 6 more urns for unclaimed Veteranís

cremains and we are down to 7 more. If you are interested in making some urns to add

to our supply talk to Dr. Van.

Had a good turnout and plenty of tops made at Stan Lambertís. Doc has contacted St. Vincents we will deliver the tops when he gets back from his trip.

Work schedule has been passed around and still has spots available. Just because someone else has signed up, doesnít mean we canít use your help.

Yellowstone Woodturners Symposium #10

Be thinking of items for the silent auction, Dick Buckley has already donated a great sander to the cause, so go thru your unused items and see what you have available.

Alan Carter is extremely excited to be coming out to present four different sessions on: Long Stem goblets, suspended vessels, split bowl vessels and design. More info on Alan can be found at www.alancarterstudio.com. Dates are the same, October 17th and 18th. Cost will be $90 for full symposium and $75 for one day. Cost at the door will be $100.
