April 2013 President’s Message:
The year is passing rapidly and spring is beginning to bloom. This means it will soon be time to rake the yard, tune up the sprinklers, and get ready for mowing season. Lots of work ahead. But let’s hope we have rain first. Rain is the secret to getting the countryside green.
The next meeting program will be both interesting and a bit different. Since our members invest in more than just lathe turning, it is appropriate to periodically feature other wood crafts. A member recently completed making a Civil War Officer’s Chair. This is a small piece of furniture that played a significant role in the Civil War. It will be shown, demonstrated, and an explanation of how it was made will be outlined.
Our next Workshop will be on June 15 at Dan Vanderhoof’s Workshop, 1225 Tappadero Drive, in Lockwood. With summer at that time, we can count on a picnic in Dan’s back yard.
See you on April 10 at our next regular meeting.

A Message From Members
I hope all is going well with all of you. I just wanted to give you all a heads up that we're having another symposium this year and it will feature Mike Mahoney. It's been several years since he was in Billings at the Yellowstone Woodturners Symposium, so I talked him into coming back to Montana this year. We don't have all the details ironed out yet, like cost and a few other things, but it's going to be September 21 & 22. I'm the chairman and I plan to get something set up with one of the hotels and Dick's RV Park for people to stay at a discount. I'm sure some of our members would be happy to have guests stay with them also. It'll be pretty much the same program as always - lunch, door prizes, auction, dinner somewhere Saturday night, etc. I hope some of you guys who would like to see Mike again, or who haven't seen him before, will come over and visit us again. I'd appreciate if you would pass this info along to the rest of your members, and when I get all the particulars together I will send it to you.
Thanks, Barry Rockwell Great Falls Woodturners
